We have been working with numerous Chief Fire Officers and OD teams across the UK and have created an evidence-based, FRS-specific 360-degree feedback tool which assesses the behaviours and competencies included in the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Leadership Framework.
It is based on an adapted version of our widely proven Engaging Leadership model and augmented with
FRS-specific professional and leadership requirements.
In this way, it is not only addressing what the NFCC require but also what is needed of organisation leaders across the world today. Since the publication of the 2023 HMICFRS report looking at the values and culture in fire and rescue services, the spotlight has firmly been on the quality of leadership in services and the culture that leadership is creating. The fire and rescue service is far from the only sector in which leadership and culture have significant room for improvement. An arguable difference with fire compared to many other sectors, however, is how serious the consequences can be when leadership and management are found to be lacking.
