Banner Healthcare delivers free period products to support frontline wellbeing
South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) has partnered with workplace solutions provider Banner to roll out free-vend dispensers stocked with biodegradable period products across its sites, improving access for more than 93% of staff.
In ambulance services, long shifts, high call volumes and mobile operations can make access to hygiene facilities difficult. Previously, some SCAS sites only offered paid dispensers, creating barriers and impacting staff wellbeing.
Banner Healthcare, a long-standing strategic supplier to SCAS, worked closely with the Trust to deliver its ‘Period Dignity at Work’ initiative. The project saw Banner source and install 46 dispensers, replacing older paid units with a cost-effective, environmentally conscious alternative stocked with biodegradable pads and tampons.
Sustainability at the core
Banner Healthcare also helped SCAS launch an educational campaign to encourage uptake of reusable menstrual cups. Each dispenser included a QR code linking to information on sustainable options and a confidential order form for a menstrual cup twin pack. A grant funded 50 cups, delivered discreetly on a first-come, first-served basis.
“While tampons and pads will be available for emergency use at an office or resource centre, using a menstrual cup can protect you for up to 12 hours, which for frontline staff could be a game changer as they may not have regular access to toilet facilities during a shift.”
Lisa Simpson, SCAS Health and Wellbeing Coordinator.
