Dräger Launches FPS-COM Voice System to Enhance Firefighter Communication
Dräger COM-Voice
Dräger, an international leader in the fields of medical and safety technology, has launched the new FPS-COM Voice mask-integrated unit to improve voice firefighter communication when using breathing apparatus.

The easy-to-use communications unit features enhanced voice capture and audible output, with a Click & Go port which enables quick mounting onto the Dräger FPS 7000 full-face mask. A key feature of the FPS-COM Voice is its ease of service, designed to be completely maintenance free. It benefits from not requiring a separate battery, eliminating the need for replacement, charging and testing, with the power being supplied directly from the radio.

The FPS-COM Voice offers a variety of firefighter safety benefits, including improved voice communications to reduce miscommunication during an incident, supporting more efficient deployment and ease of cleaning. The slimline unit includes voice input, with a specially tuned microphone for use with the FPS 7000, a loudspeaker directed towards the ear for voice output, and a cable holder for tidy cable management during storage.

The unit allows for time-efficient handovers between firefighters, due to the ease of detachment from the mask by use of a quick release button. The positioning of the unit enhances comfort and can meet firefighters’ individual preferences and hearing needs, with versions available for the left and right ear, or both if required. Durable and reliable, it meets all relevant standards for firefighting deployment and has been tested for flame resistance and other critical safety aspects.

With its certified IP65 and IP67 electronic safety ratings, the unit is optimally protected against water vapour, dust, water jets and even temporary immersion in water, as well as having the highest possible approval for use in potentially explosive environments.

Liz Millward, Marketing Manager, Emergency and Rescue Services at Dräger Safety UK, says the new communications unit has received excellent customer feedback so far: “We are thrilled that our customers have been impressed by the benefits offered by the new FPS-COM system, with user feedback praising the excellent speech clarity, improved hearing abilities, and compact, simple to fit design. It’s evidence of how Dräger designs equipment using direct, on-the-ground feedback.”
