What is a defibrillator? A defibrillator is a device that gives a high-energy electric shocks to the heart if someone is having a cardiac arrest. The high energy shocks are called defibrillation and play an essential part in trying to save the life of anyone who’s in cardiac arrest. A defibrillator can also be called a defib, an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) or a PAD (Public Access Defibrillator).
