49N Mental Armor Introduction

Hear from former Desert Storm Prisoner of War, Brigadier General Rhonda Cornum PhD, MD about 49N™ Mental Armor Programs.

Mental Armor Programs

Purpose

49 North’s Mental Armor training helps first responders, military personnel, and others in high-stress environments develop resilience skills for their personal and professional lives.

Rationale

Law enforcement, military, and first responder roles are physically and emotionally demanding, leading to stress, burnout, fatigue, absenteeism, and social isolation. High operational stress increases the risk of errors, overreactions, and compromised public safety. Research indicates that specific skills can enhance resilience, which includes problem-solving, adaptability, positive coping, self-regulation, and social support. Resilient first responders manage cognitive and emotional challenges better, maintain performance under stress, and recover effectively from traumatic experiences.
