The VDMA 24994specification details a real fire test, where a given Kilowatt hour capacity of lithium batteries are ignited in a cabinet. The cabinet is measured to a number of different stringent parameters including maximum temperature rise on the outside of the cabinet, not allowing flames or projectiles to escape and limiting the amount of toxic smoke from exiting the cabinet.
