Exercise Sancho | Offshore Wind

HFR Solutions CIC Stand: 5/OS250
Exercise Sancho was the first in the UK’s TRIREX (Triennial Renewables Exercise) series – a comprehensive, large-scale, multi-agency emergency response exercise conducted on 31 May 2022. Facilitated by OREEF (Offshore Renewable Energy Emergency Forum), it tested the coordinated response of the offshore renewables industry, emergency services, and regulatory bodies to a simulated major offshore wind emergency.

The exercise brought together operators like Ørsted, RES, RWE, plus HM Coastguard, police forces (including Lincolnshire, Humberside, and Norfolk), search and rescue teams, and other stakeholders including HFR Solutions CIC. It simulated realistic scenarios, such as fires or personnel rescue, and featured both onshore and offshore live-play in active wind farm environments.

The goals were to evaluate and strengthen emergency arrangements, inter-agency communication, and operational procedures. Participants responded positively, rating the exercise highly in effectiveness and preparedness. The broader aim is for these learnings to drive improvements in emergency response across the UK, and potentially globally.
