
David Davis
Clinical Director in Mental Health Commissioning
Paramedic with an interest in Clinical Informatics and Digital Healthcare and NHS Digital Academy Alumni.
David commences the post of Clinical Director for the Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups in September 2021 having previous recently undertaken the roles of Head of Clinical Audit & Service Development and Head of Integrated Governance for 999 and 111 in the South East. Prior to this David led the national Integrated Urgent Care Workforce Development Programme across NHS England and Health Education England.
He is also clinical Trustee of Thames Valley Air Ambulance, panel member for Health Practice Associates voluntary regulator and clinical advisor for the Patient Records Standards Body. David is one of the Founding Fellows of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics having worked in the Department of Health, HSCIC and NHS England as a clinical informatics national clinical lead.
David is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Paramedic Practice, AHP Clinical Lead for South East Coast Clinical Senate Council and Peer Inspector and part of the mental health advisory board for Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies and Fire & Rescue Services. He has undertaken a number of roles within the College of Paramedics, including most recently Mental Health Lead and prior to this as Director of Communications and parliamentary, and was awarded a Fellowship in 2013 for his contribution to the profession around development of telephone triage.
Outside of mental health and clinical informatics his area of clinical interest is the pre-hospital management and treatment of stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) and he has previously been nationally recognised for his contribution to the prehospital management of stroke within England with Lord Darzi’s next stage review and at the NHS’s 60th birthday. David is currently working with the University of Miami and Angels stroke charity initiative in supporting pre-hospital stroke identification and management across Europe.
David has been a member of the NHS Clinical Leaders Network since undertaking the programme in 2008, and is a member of the NHS CLN Council.
David continues to practice as a frontline paramedic and has been delivering COVID-19 vaccines in a number of settings.
