Garry Botterill
Founder and Operations Director,,
Service Dogs UK
I want to nominate Garry as an unsung hero for his incredible dedication to mental health and wellbeing in the emergency services and veteran community. Garry's journey from the Royal Navy to the police force gave him first-hand insight into the challenges faced by personnel, particularly around PTSD. Driven to make a difference, he conducted research in the US and the Netherlands on PTSD assistance dogs, and with support from the Churchill Trust, he created a pilot programme that became Service Dogs UK. Service Dogs UK focuses on recruiting rescue dogs and has now expanded to three locations. The charity supports veterans and emergency service personnel with mental health challenges and actively welcomes collaboration with the wider emergency services community. Garry's vision, compassion and practical innovation have created a lasting impact, helping people who often struggle in silence.I want to nominate Garry as an unsung hero for his incredible dedication to mental health and wellbeing in the emergency services and veteran community.
