Strategic Health Lead, National Fire Chiefs Council
Ged’s background includes 26 years’ service in local government as a senior policy manager, work at a regional and national level to support partnership working and a senior health improvement leadership role for Public Health England (PHE).  After a secondment from PHE to the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) to work with fire and rescue services to embed a wider prevention approach to the work of the sector Ged joined the NFCC on a permanent basis in October 2021.
Ged works on a national footprint with colleagues from the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, Local Government, voluntary and community sector partners and Fire and Rescue Service. His work supports good practice, the development of a range of guidance documents, training and prevention programmes, support materials and outcome measures to support the development of the prevention capacity and capability of fire services as part of broader public service reform.
Ged is currently working on the following key work streams across the NFCC and supports the work of the NFCC Prevention Coordination Committee:
•        Improving the evidence base for prevention (evaluation, learning and data sharing)
•        Collaboration and partnership working
•        The NFCC Community Risk Programme
•        The economic cost of fire
•        The standardisation of the person centred approach to the Home Fire Safety Visit
•        Mental Health and Fire Risk
