John Barclay
After a decade as a British Army soldier with the Royal Logistic Corps, John founded Glasgow Street Aid (SCIO).
The charity exists to provide lifesaving emergency care and support to Glasgow’s most vulnerable and those in need of immediate help in the night time economy. The charity also strives to support already stretched statutory emergency services. Through his integrity and unwavering commitment to public service (despite many challenges) - he has built a strong, multi faceted team helping to deliver this - encompassing Doctors
Nurses (incl ED, ICU, Mental Health and Paediatric specialists)
Paramedics
Medics
Control Team
ICT team - the list could go on! From humble beginnings to over 100 volunteers and over 7400 incidents attended. No mean feat.
In addition to being a capable leader, John is also a qualified and seasoned Ambulance Technician and a gifted trainer. He strives for excellence in best practice in both the charity’s demanding frontline operations, governance and competences - but is also known for developing the skills, confidence, and resilience of those around him. Most of the volunteers he has mentored have gone on to careers in healthcare and too statutory emergency services. They carry forward the values and standards instilled at GSA.
John works tirelessly and steps into any role required - thanks to this unwavering dedication, and leadership - Glasgow Street Aid continues to save lives and restore dignity across the city.
An ordinary Glaswegian doing extraordinary things.
