Laura-Jane Watkins

Laura-Jane is an international human rights and criminal justice lawyer, and a passionate advocate for reform in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) sector. A former public defence attorney in South Africa, she has championed access to justice for marginalised communities and conducted legal research for the South African Human Rights Commission on security sector governance. 

She holds two Master of Laws degrees in transitional justice, international criminal law, and human rights, awarded by the University of Birmingham and the South African-German Centre for Transnational Crime. As Research Coordinator with SecurityWomen, a UN ECOSOC-accredited organisation, she has led global advocacy efforts, including contributions to the UK GAPS Report, the UN Summit of the Future, and UNODC’s Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
