Lucy Herd

Lucy Herd is a Bereavement Rights campaigner, author, and founder of Grief First Aiders. Following the devastating loss of her 23-month-old son Jack in 2010, Lucy began a national campaign to change the way bereaved parents are supported in the workplace.

Lucy created and led the campaign for Jack’s Law, which became law in 2020 and gave eligible working parents and adults who lose a child the right to paid parental bereavement leave. What began as one mother’s fight for change became a landmark piece of legislation affecting bereaved families across the UK.

Lucy has since continued to champion better understanding and support for grief in workplaces and wider society, drawing on both her lived experience and professional expertise.

She is also the author of Your Heart’s Garden, a compassionate grief resource designed to help people navigate life after loss. Through her writing, speaking, campaigning and work with organisations, Lucy is passionate about turning the pain of loss into positive change and ensuring that Jack’s legacy continues to make a difference to others.
