Mark Matthews
Assistant Chief Fire Officer,
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service
Mark Matthews has been with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service for 23 years. He has served in a range of roles including the Staff Officer to the Chief, Brighton & Hove Borough Commander, Wealden Borough Commander and Assistant Director of Safer Communities and Assistant Director of Response & Resilience.
In May 2021 he was appointed as the Assistant Chief Fire Officer responsible for Service Delivery across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove, after having carried out the role on an interim basis since November 2020. Mark is specifically responsible for Prevention, Protection, Mobilising, Response and Resilience and Fleet. He is also a member of several regional and national committees/working groups and is the NFCC Mental Health Board lead, reporting to the Prevention Committee.
Mark was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 2019 and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022.
