Richie Murray has been a police officer for over 20 years, initially joining Hampshire Constabulary as a Special Constable in 1998 before moving to Cleveland Police, where he spent most of his policing career. Throughout this time, he predominantly served on frontline response and neighbourhood policing teams.

After becoming a local Police Federation representative in Middlesbrough, Richie was elected Deputy Secretary/Treasurer in 2013 and later became the branch conduct lead. In 2019, he was elected Cleveland Branch Secretary, serving in both roles until September 2022 while also representing members on the National Council.

As a National Board member for Region 2, Richie leads on national health and wellbeing work and chairs the Welfare Van Working Group. Through his extensive experience supporting officers and staff, he is a passionate advocate for improving mental health awareness across policing. In this session, Richie explores why conversations about suicide can be difficult, why they are so important, and how creating a culture of openness and support can help save lives.
