The Learning & Development Theatre

The Learning & Development theatre will bring best practice from across all the emergency services to share ideas, innovation and knowledge that can be widely applied across all services. With sessions from the Air Ambulance charity, expert communication practitioners and suppliers to the emergency services, visitors will learn how some of the key challenges in the sector are being tackled and overcome by those who have been on the frontline.  Within this theatre specifically we’ll also be taking a look at the evolving implications and key learning emerging from the global Covid 19 pandemic.

    The National Chemical Emergency Centre’s (NCEC) training portal, the Hazmat Academy, enable’s anyone who may have to respond to an incident involving hazardous materials to do so safely and effectively. It provides off-the-shelf as well as bespoke hazmat training that can be delivered in person, via distance-based learning, or through a combination of both. Each training package balances the technical requirements of the subject matter with the tactical understanding of how this will be put into practice and is delivered by qualified chemists and hazmat experts with backgrounds in emergency response. For ESS, the Hazmat Academy experts will be hosting a free learning and development seminar –  Hazmat Corner –  where they will discuss and answer your hazmat questions. You will be able to submit the questions during a prior call-out. This enjoyable, interactive and informative session will be discussion oriented, drawing on the broad subject-matter expertise of the panellists

    Steve North retired from the fire service in 2017 following a career as a firefighter in the London Fire Brigade and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spending most of his career on operational duties including a seven-year spell on a Technical Rescue Unit and two periods working as an instructor in South Yorkshires Training & Development Centre.
    Steve has a passion for RTC rescue and been with the UKRO for almost 22 years firstly as a competitor in South Yorkshires RTC extrication team gaining world titles along the way and later joined the UKRO assessing team, he is currently the UKRO assessor development officer and project manager for the Ukraine International Development Project.
    Apart from his voluntary work with the UKRO Steve is the Rescue Director for International Road Rescue & Trauma Consultancy (IRRTC) delivering first class training to fire & rescue services across the UK & overseas.
