This year at The Emergency Services Show & The Emergency Tech Show, turned up the volume on the bold, brilliant women driving change across emergency services.

From the frontline to leadership, women are breaking barriers, saving lives, and reshaping the future of response and we're here to celebrate them.

Our #SheServesToo campaign hosted a powerful series of talks, and networking opportunities that brought together the people, organisations, and ideas championing women in blue light roles.

She Serves... But at what cost?

Policing

  • 35.4% of police officers are women - up from 34.7% in 2023 but women still remain underrepresented, especially in senior ranks.

  • Only 32.9% of promotions went to female officers in the year to March 2024

Fire & Rescue

  • Just 9.3% of firefighters overall were female, even though women made up 14% of new recruits and apprentices

  • Across development and trainee roles, around 17% of firefighter trainees and 16% in development were women, whereas only 10% of competent firefighters were female

Ambulance

  • A record 22,536 incidents of violence, aggression and abuse were reported, that’s a 15% rise from 19,633 the previous year

  • On average across the UK, at least 62 ambulance staff are attacked or abused every single day, nearly three incidents every hour

  • Alarmingly, female paramedics are three times more likely than the NHS average to face assault

Why these stats matter?

  • Women remain underrepresented, especially in leadership and frontline roles like firefighting.

  • Violence against female staff is rising, with ambulance workers facing daily abuse.

  • Inequality affects recruitment and retention, limiting the talent pipeline.

  • Diverse teams deliver better outcomes, this is about safety, effectiveness, and fairness.

  • Progress is too slow, awareness must turn into action.
